Good Afternoon,
Today, several school districts around the state experienced a “swatting” hoax incident. Swatting is defined as a prank call made to emergency services in an attempt to dispatch law enforcement to a particular location. While St. Charles Community Schools did not experience this issue directly, we know many of our families are understandably concerned about school safety. Please know that our first priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We take all reports of potential threats seriously and make every effort to ensure safe learning environments. In an overabundance of caution, our district decided to enter into a secure mode for the remainder of the February 7, 2023, school day. Students will be dismissed at the end of the day per their regular school schedule.
We encourage our students and school community to report anything that could constitute a threat to school safety. We work closely with public safety leaders and officers to assist in these situations.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
-Mark Benson, Superintendent of St. Charles Community Schools
